In 2003, I was given the opportunity to work as an Information Specialist at the DHHS Office of Minority Health/Resource Center (OMHRC). There I learned about the impact of health disparities and how it affected many minority communities. From the many programs and policies OMH/RC developed to eliminate health disparities, I became most interested in educating families about infant mortality. Because of my interest in maternal child health issues, I was asked to assist in the development and launch of "A Healthy Baby Begins with You." A national print and radio campaign to raise awareness about infant mortality in the African American community - as an effort to end health disparities among racial and ethnic minorities.
From the success of this campaign, The National Council of Negro Women, Montgomery County Chapter President asked me to collaborate with there organization in developing an education and support program for teen moms in four Montgomery County High Schools. From this partnership, the "Better Me, Better Baby, Better Village initiative was created.
From the fulfillment and joy I received from working with maternal child health organizations and parents seeking maternity and parenting education. In 2013, I founded Pregnancy Concepts. Since the inception of Pregnancy Concepts, I have collaborated with many organizations to assist many parents during their maternity journey.
I am a Certified Childbirth Educator, Certified Breastfeeding Specialist, Certified Dr. Sear's Health Coach, Certified Early Childhood Educator, holds Masters of Art in Elementary Education and currently is a Breastfeeding Coordinator for a non-profit organization in Prince George's County, MD.
Through my work and personal experience with pregnancy and childbirth, I believe that preparation is the key in helping moms lessen their anxiety and build confidence in their body's ability to give birth. Reach out to me at askus@pregnancyconcepts.com to learn more.
